Destinations

Three countries. One team who knows them.

Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda. Each has its own landscape, its own wildlife, its own season, and its own reason to go. Savanna Secrets has been operating across East Africa since 1990. What follows is what we know.

Amboseli & the Mara
Kenya

Where it begins for most people.

Kenya is where Savanna Secrets was founded, and it remains the destination we know most intimately. The country offers an extraordinary range of ecosystems within short distances of each other: open grassland, mountain forest, arid savanna, freshwater lakes, and over five hundred kilometres of Indian Ocean coastline.

Kenya is home to the Maasai Mara, one of the world’s most celebrated game reserves and the stage for the annual wildebeest migration. Amboseli offers iconic views of Kilimanjaro rising above elephant herds. Tsavo, the country’s largest park, is a landscape unlike any other: red-dust plains, lava fields, and permanent springs that draw wildlife year-round. Combining a safari circuit with time on the coast is one of the most complete East African experiences available, and one we design regularly.

Serengeti & Ngorongoro
Tanzania

The full scale of East Africa.

Tanzania offers something no other country in East Africa quite matches: the Serengeti. A wilderness of over thirty thousand square kilometres, home to the greatest wildlife spectacle on the planet, the annual wildebeest migration, where more than a million animals move in an unbroken cycle across the plains.

Below the Serengeti lies the Ngorongoro Crater, a collapsed volcanic caldera that functions as a self-contained ecosystem. Game density inside the crater is exceptional: lions, elephants, black rhino, and flamingo-lined lake shores, all within a single drive. Tanzania is also the gateway to Zanzibar, which combines white-sand beaches with Stone Town, one of the most intact Swahili towns in the world. We operate here through a carefully managed partnership with a sister company, ensuring the same standard of planning and ground support our Kenya clients expect.

Rwanda

Small country. Remarkable wildlife.

Rwanda is one of the most surprising destinations in East Africa. A country that has rebuilt itself with extraordinary determination now offers some of the most carefully managed wildlife experiences on the continent.

Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park is the headline experience, and for good reason. Rwanda’s permits allow visitors to spend time with habituated gorilla families on the mist-covered slopes of the Virunga volcanoes. The experience is tightly controlled, deeply personal, and genuinely unlike anything else. The country is small enough to move between destinations efficiently, and the standard of lodging near the parks is excellent.

We are currently developing itinerary options for Rwanda. If Rwanda is of interest, reach out and we will discuss what we can put together for your group.
