Three landscapes, in four days.
Kenya’s dove species are widespread and often overlooked, present in every ecosystem the country has to offer. The logic of this itinerary is that the dove goes everywhere, and so does this route. In four days, this safari covers three of Kenya’s most distinct and rewarding parks: Tsavo West, Amboseli, and Tsavo East.
Each park has a different character. Tsavo West is rocky and forested, with the Mzima Springs and the Shetani lava fields. Amboseli sits beneath Mount Kilimanjaro and is famous for its elephant herds and the views of Africa’s highest mountain on a clear morning. Tsavo East is open and arid, the landscape of red dust, the Galana River, and the maneless lions. Connecting them in sequence gives you a genuine sense of the range of landscapes that southern Kenya holds.
This safari is operated from the Mombasa coast and returns to the coast on the final day.
The itinerary.
Mombasa to Tsavo West National Park
Pick-up from South Coast hotels at 05:30, North Coast hotels at 06:00.
Drive to Tsavo West National Park, entering with a game drive en route to the lodge. The park’s western sector is home to buffalo, elephant, leopard, and a varied birdlife that makes the forested sections rewarding at any time of day. An afternoon game drive runs until sunset.
Tsavo West to Amboseli National Park
Early breakfast between 06:30 and 07:00. Depart with a morning game drive through the park before driving south to Amboseli.
Amboseli sits at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. The park is most famous for its elephant herds, which move freely between the swamps and the open plains, often with the mountain visible above them. Arrive in time for lunch, rest, and an afternoon game drive until sunset. An optional champagne sundowner is available at Kimana area at extra cost.
Amboseli to Tsavo East National Park
After breakfast, drive to Tsavo East, arriving in time for lunch. The afternoon game drive covers the area around the camp, where the red elephants, stained by the iron-rich soil, are a constant presence. The maneless Tsavo lion, the Aruba Dam, the Yatta Plateau, and Mudanda Rock are among the park’s defining features.
Tsavo East to Mombasa
Early morning game drive at first light, followed by breakfast. Drive to Mombasa for a short city tour and a farewell lunch at Castle Restaurant. Transfer to your beach hotel.
